Upcoming water restrictions
The City of Calgary announced plans for the first phase of pipe reinforcement work for the Bearspaw Feeder Main. The complete update can be found here City of Calgary proceeding with planned reinforcements to the Bearspaw South Feeder Main
Beginning March 9 and lasting approximately 4 weeks The City will begin reinforcement work on the Bearspaw Feeder Main. This will involve work along 16 Ave near Sarcee Trail. A map of the areas is outlined below for reference.
As a result, the feeder main will be taken off line and Stage 4 water restrictions will be introduced for the 4 weeks of the reinforcement work. This will require all Calgarians to undertake water conservation measures as The Cityโs ability to move water through the entire system is reduced.
These conservation efforts are essential during this reinforcement work. We would ask everyone to think about what they can do to reduce water use during that period, both individually and organizationally.
As before weโre asking all Calgarians to save 25-30 litres of water per day indoors by taking the following actions:
Keep showers short, three minutes or less.
Flush toilets only when necessary.
Only run dishwashers and washing machines when there is a full load.
Fall Shutdown
There will be an additional shutdown in the fall for more reinforcement work. Information will be shared as it becomes available.
REPLACEMENT WORK
The work on the replacement pipe began January 23. This work continues and is planned to be completed by December of 2026.
During this work there will be open cut construction between 73 St NW and 89 St NW. This is expected to occur in May and as more information is available it will be shared.
If there are any questions or impacts you expect, please reach out to us and we can reach out internally to try to get them answered.
