Agent Status Program

Giving Police the Green Light: Understanding the Agent Status Program

Calgary property owners have a new tool to help keep their spaces safe—without adding extra workload or constant oversight.

The Calgary Police Service is expanding its Agent Status Program, a proactive initiative that empowers officers to address trespassing and suspicious activity on private, non-residential properties. After a successful pilot in the downtown core, the program is now opening up more broadly to property owners across the city.

What Is Agent Status?

The concept is simple but powerful. Property owners who enroll in the program grant Calgary police officers the authority to enter their property and act on their behalf when issues arise—particularly in cases of trespassing.

This means officers no longer need to track down or wait for the property owner before taking action. If a situation occurs after hours or when no one is available, police can step in immediately.

Why It Matters

Trespassing and property misuse often happen outside of business hours, when response delays can lead to ongoing issues or escalating situations. By removing the barrier of owner authorization, the Agent Status Program helps:

  • Speed up response times

  • Deter repeat trespassing

  • Reduce property damage and disorder

  • Improve overall community safety

It’s a simple shift that enables a more efficient and proactive approach to policing.

Who Should Consider It?

The program is designed specifically for non-residential property owners—including commercial buildings, construction sites, vacant properties, and other spaces that may be vulnerable when unattended.

If your property experiences frequent after-hours activity or you’re not always on-site, this program offers an added layer of protection without requiring constant involvement.

Easy and Free to Join

One of the biggest advantages? The program is completely free.

Applications open December 9, and property owners can quickly apply online. Once approved, your property is added to the program, allowing officers to act when needed—no extra calls, no delays.

A Smarter Way to Protect Your Property

The Agent Status Program is a practical example of how small policy changes can create meaningful impact. By giving police the ability to act in real time, Calgary is making it easier for property owners to stay protected—and for communities to feel safer.
