Summer is upon us and like everyone, the CHCA Board takes a summer recess. June was active with our Casino, the annual general meeting and the Community Cleanup run in partnership with Rosemont Community. We thank David Babich and his team of volunteers for their hard work making our Casino dates so successful. Similarly thanks go out to Rosemont resident Bent Nielsen and his team of volunteers for the annual Cleanup Day June 28. At the AGM, the members of the Community Board were elected and after a detailed presentation the meeting was opened up for discussion and an interchange of ideas.
For the first time Cambrian Heights has joined with Mount Pleasant in sponsoring the Stampede Breakfast in the parking lot of the Our House restaurant on 4th Street. All residents are welcome on Sunday July 5. A great opportunity to meet neighbours from both communities.
One activity that will be continued all summer is our Farmers Market. This has been a great success for the community and vendors alike. As a reminder, the market runs every Tuesday through October 6 from 3 - 7 p.m. in the community hall parking lot.
Plans are being developed to hold a family Oktoberfest BBQ with music and a beer garden in late September. Details will be published in the August newsletter and on the website (cambrianheightscommunity.com) when finalized.
This summer, the R-CG Bylaw will officially be repealed on August 6. We will return to the previous developmental rules, 1P2007, recognizing single family home development zones within a community. This will not preclude secondary suites or backyard suites but will make multi-family development on residential lots subject to more restrictions. We expect a City-wide consultation process to commence and come up with new rules in response to development demand and densification drivers. Be prepared to participate in those discussions.
We’ve also kicked off a member experience survey. We hope you’ll take a few minutes to complete it. Your feedback helps guide our priorities, events and improvements in the year ahead. Find the survey on our website or use your phone to scan the QR in this newsletter. The survey is open until August 31.
Finally we would like to remind residents that the Community Hall is available for birthday parties, weddings, anniversaries and other social events. There is capacity at the hall for 150 guests with tables, chairs and a full commercial grade kitchen. Photos and rental details are available on our website.
